As a little girl, I was told every time Uncle Gordon came for a visit, I would hide under the sofa and not come out. It was his beard I was afraid of! I don't ever remember seeing Gordon without a beard... it was like his trademark to me. Even at Gray Motor's, when my brother Robert and I, with Lindsay and Mitchel, would get to play in the tires, I remember Gordon's beard and the long white "Gray Motor's" smock. I thought he looked so important.
Then the years went by. Besides family get together's, anniversary's... once in a while, I would visit Gordon and Pat with my Dad on Sunday's after church. Uncle Gordon made the best tea ever. It was always just right. With his and my dad's sense of humour, we always had a good laugh.
I also recall getting some tables for one of Gordon's garage sale's .... I was always impressed by the amount of effort he took to get the sale going, especially with having to bring up so much from his basement. I don't know if he ever got what he wanted for his item's, but he certainly had a lot of nice antques!
When he became "Gordon the sock man", selling socks on the internet.... I had a wonderful chuckle with him on that one. Gordon had a great sense of humour.
The picture of Gordon with his grand daughter was taken at his 80th birthday party. My dad had already passed away. It was at this party My Uncle Gordon told me I had a special place in his heart. I always knew I did but it was the kindest and most heartfilling words he used which leave's that memory etched in my heart forever. He truely was a gentle soul.
You never know what you had until it's gone...
I will miss him dearly..
His neice,
Dawna Gray
