Obituary for Marie Elizabeth Ottosen

OTTOSEN-WILLARD, Marie Elizabeth
Marie said goodbye to her earthly life and hello to heaven on Sunday evening, February 8th at Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 94. She was born August 21, 1920 in Washington, DC to David and Cora Rittenhouse. She married Harold Ottosen on August 14, 1942, shortly before he was sent overseas to serve in World War II. Marie and Harold had seven children of whom six still live. They immigrated to Canada in 1967 and have called Alberta home ever since. Marie was educated a teacher, however her first love was books and being a librarian. Marie was also a social activist supporting several causes including the prolife movement and Amnesty International. Her biggest love, though, has always been her family. After Harold’s passing in 1999, Marie grieved for many years until she met her second husband, Allan Willard. They were married on March 2, 2010. Marie is predeceased by, and now reunited with her parents, David and Cora Rittenhouse, three siblings, Robert Rittenhouse, David Rittenhouse, Jr. and Ruth Morris, as well as her infant daughter, Coralee (1958). She is survived by six children - Harold Ottosen, Jr., Donald Ottosen (Linda), Bud Ottosen (Eve), Charles Ottosen (Jean), Elizabeth Jackman (Arthur) and Bev Manning (John) - her 12 grandchildren David Jacob, Sam, Rebecca, David Michael, Kell, Brendan, Erin, Katrina, Diane, Lisa, Suzanne and Kimberly - and 13 great grandchildren. A service will be held on Saturday, February 14th, 1:00 pm at Christ’s Corridor Church (formerly Parkland Christian Church) 5515 - 43 Street, Red Deer with Parkland Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements. If you would like to honour Marie’s life she would be pleased if you made a donation to Red Deer Prolife. She would also be pleased if you read a book to a child.
