Obituary for Donald George "Don" Chesney

Donald George "Don" Chesney
Mr. Donald George ‘Don’ Chesney of Lacombe, Alberta, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Red Deer Hospice on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the age of 64 years. Don lived life with energy and love. He loved the sea; and spent many years sailing in different parts of the world. Upon returning to Canada, he worked for Tools for Peace in Nicaragua; where he met and married Rosa Zuniga. They settled in Calgary and had two wonderful children. Don was very involved in his church and choir, and his passion was prison ministry; which he did for many years. After his marriage ended, he spent as many winters as possible in Mexico; where he met Laura, and her family, who became a very important part of his life. His last job was Chaplain at the Calgary Young Offenders Centre; which was his dream job. Sadly it was cut short by the diagnosis of brain cancer. His last year was spent at Gull Lake with his family. Don will be lovingly remembered by his son, Geoffrey (Mandy) Chesney and his daughter, RoseMarie (Greg) Chesney. He will also be sadly missed by his mother, Lorna Chesney; his sisters, Winnie (Bob) Settle, Marg (Paul) Harty, Mary (Bob) Blackwell and Evelyn Brooks; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Don was predeceased by his father, Douglas Stuart Chesney and a nephew, Garrett Blackwell. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Quinn Edwards, Funeral Director at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
