Obituary for David Walter Borchers

David Walter Borchers
David Walter Borchers passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the age of 70 years. Dave was born March 11, 1945 in Brooks, Alberta, only son of Walter and Soffie Borchers. His family moved to the Barrhead Area in 1951, where he lived until December 2014 when they moved to Red Deer, to be close to their children and grandchildren. In 1969, he married Christina Rennie and they had 2 children, Wilson and Susan. Dave was very much a family man and they spent many hours together camping, fishing, ball games and working together on the family farm. A very proud Papa who would play Barbies, play catch, give tractor rides and could perform a great “Lumberjack” song to a chorus of giggles and “sing it again, Papa”. Dave worked hard all his life and while he was always a farmer at heart, he had many other jobs around his farming schedule. He was a heavy equipment operator working in oilfield construction, truck driver, Seed Plant worker, grader operator for the County of Barrhead and maintenance man with Pembina Hills School Division. Dave always had his country music playing and enjoyed woodworking, looking after his fruit trees and keeping the lawn trim. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Chris, one son, Wilson, daughter-in-law, Teresa and grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Grayson; one daughter, Susan, son-in-law, Dallas Rempel and granddaughters, Amy and Jillyn, five sisters, Elsie Baer, Sonja (Herb) Grossenbacher, Margaret Battenfelder, Fay Zwack, Judy (Sid) Schuman, mother-in-law, Jessie Rennie, 2 brothers-in-law, John (Moira) Simpson, Charles (Kathleen) Simpson, and 2 sisters-in law, Kate (Robert) Cardno, and Sandra Rennie along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and 2 special friends, Ed and Annie Arndt. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Soffie Borchers, father-in-law, Wilson Rennie, 4 brothers-in–law, James Baer, Henry Battenfelder, Dennis Zwack, Douglas Simpson and sister-in-law, Jessie Simpson. The family would like to express a sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff on Unit 22 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for the exceptional care extended to Dave over the last 3 months. Cremation has already taken place and at Dave’s request there will be no funeral. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation, Unit 22; to the Barrhead Healthcare Centre; or to a charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Quinn Edwards, Funeral Director at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040 or 1.800.481.7421.
