Obituary for William Morris McPeek

William Morris McPeek
Mr. William Morris ‘Bud’ McPeek peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish his memories; his wife of sixty-four years, Thelma McPeek (nee Torgerson); son, Doug (Netty) McPeek of Saskatoon; son, Dallas (Sherry) McPeek of Red Deer; daughter, Glenda (Bob) Stewart of West Kelowna; grandchildren: Todd (Krystal) McPeek of Red Deer, Stacey McPeek of Saskatoon, Chris (Kim) Stewart of Grand Forks, BC, and Graydon Stewart of West Kelowna; great grandchildren: Brooke McPeek, Cole McPeek of Red Deer, Alex Stewart and Skyla Stewart of Grand Forks, BC. Bud also leaves a loving family of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all of us. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Bud’s life. Bud was born to James and Dora (Schobert) McPeek (the third child of a family of nine, six girls and three boys) on April 15, 1929, at Gramma Schobert’s home near Melaval, Saskatchewan. During his childhood, he lived in Wood Mountain, Lanigan, Mazenod and Coronach. Bud had a calm and loving personality. He was able to make friends with everyone and talk as long as you like! Bud was very patient; nothing bothered him. He was a very hard worker all his life, dedicated to each task. Bud married Thelma Irene Torgerson on September 30th, 1950 in the Alliance Church in Coronach, Saskatchewan. During the time they lived in Coronach, Bud worked for Curran’s Esso. Three children were born to Bud and Thelma, Douglas Grant McPeek, born on July 12, 1951, Dallas Dwayne James McPeek, born September 9, 1952 and Glenda Dianne McPeek, born on July 9, 1954. In 1957, the family moved to Lancer, Saskatchewan where Bud took over an Esso bulk fuel dealership. He ran that business for the next 17 years. They also bought a convenience store and pool hall, and built an Esso Service Station in Lancer. He was very involved in the community, including volunteer Fire Chief and sat on the Town Council. Bud had surgery on his back in Regina on July 16, 1969, but the surgery was unsuccessful. In 1973, the family moved to Red Deer, where Bud worked at Ultra Sales and Service, and later at Mustang Acres. He passed his GED for Grade 11. In 1978, Bud bought and operated a gravel truck. Several years later Bud sold his truck and drove a gravel truck for Border Paving. He later got a contract with Kipp Scott and Glover International and drove vehicles to auction sites which he continued to do for a few years. In 1979, Bud and his son Dallas started a construction company that they called Budal Construction (Bud/Dallas). With a lot of hard work and talent, that went very well and it is on its third generation now, with grandson Todd working the business. Bud retired in the late 1990’s, but still took numerous part time jobs that included a security guard at building sites, water truck driver to oil rigs and attended boilers at rigs in the winter time. In his retirement, Bud enjoyed travel, family, grandchildren, Gunsmoke and Matlock! During their years in Red Deer, Bud and Thelma lived at 36 Fern Road, #2 Nichols Crescent and 87 Kirkwood Crescent. When they first moved to Red Deer they purchased a pre-built home at 36 Fern Road. In 1977, they built a beautiful split level home (#2 Nichols Crescent) in a new development area in Red Deer. It soon became apparent to their son Dallas that the stairs were too much for them, so they sold this house when Dallas built them a beautiful new home with wide hallways, and everything they needed to live out the rest of their lives (they thought). They lived in this home for 7 years and loved this home. In 2008, Bud and Thelma moved to the Pines Lodge in Red Deer and in August of 2010, Bud moved to Extendicare Michener Hill. Thelma remained at the Pines, making regular trips via Handi-Dart bus, 2 or 3 times weekly, to visit Bud. Bud went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:05 a.m. on the morning of June 15, with family members at his side. Although he will be missed greatly, the transition was beautiful and so peaceful. Bud’s story continues even now. He is no longer in pain, no longer suffering. He is not even color-blind! He understands and sees more clearly now than ever before – more clearly than we who remain. We remain for now, but only for a short while, for we will see him again. We look forward to that day. We love you always and forever.
