Obituary for Jean Elizabeth Hills

Jean Elizabeth Hills
Mrs. Jean Elizabeth ‘Jeannie’ Hills of Red Deer passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the age of 64 years. Jeannie was born as one of two sets of twins on March 27, 1950 in Kimpton, England to her loving parents, Hugh and Gwen Hills. She attended Kimpton Primary School and for all indications was happy making a life in the village. It wasn’t until she met and married Ian Hills, who would be her husband for thirty-eight years, that she ventured outside. After marrying on July 24, 1977, the couple moved across the ocean to Red Deer where Ian had begun a career as an accountant. It is here that they raised three children, five dogs, and a host of other pets and ‘adopted’ children. Jeannie had a natural smile and ease about her that drew people in. She made friends wherever she went; whether it was the ‘Three Mile Bend Crew’, Northern Reflections or Heywood Holmes co-workers, or countless friends made through her kids’ activities and everyday life. She started and ended the day with a coffee and was selfless in whatever she did. Her life was serenaded by music, particularly that of Rod Stewart, and she counted Christmas and vacationing in Hawaii as her favourite occasions. Jeannie is survived by her partner in life and loving husband, Ian; her sons, Christopher (Tracy) and Logan (Jen); her daughter, Kelly (Matt); her siblings, Les (Susan), Sandra (John), and Steve (Margaret); her many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless friends whose lives she touched; as well as her dog, Jasper. Family and friends may honour her at her Memorial Service at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Jeannie’s honour may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation at www.albertacancer.ca/donate or the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com. Arrangements in care of Rhian Solecki, Funeral Director at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
