Obituary for Martha Kathrina Popp

Martha Kathrina  Popp
On Saturday, January 10, 2015 our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, was gathered into God’s arms. She passed away peacefully, with her daughter, Marlene at her side, in her residence at Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer. Martha, along with 8 brothers and sisters, was born to George and Kathrina Schepp. In October 1940 she married Frank Popp and they first lived in the Landestrew District. From there they moved to a farm one mile south of MacNutt, Sask., where they lived for 20 years prior to moving to Yorkton. In 1986 they moved to Red Deer, Alberta. Martha will be sadly missed by her three children, Wayne (Darlene) Popp of Surrey BC, Marlene (Ray) Lang of Red Deer, Alberta and Harvey (Judith) Popp of El Cajon, CA. She also leaves to mourn her passing, 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Wayne) Marfleet, Kevin (Brandi) Popp, Robert (Nicole) Lang, Cara (Colin) Penman, and Clinton Popp. She is survived by her great grandchildren Brittany and Brendon Marfleet, MacKenzie and Berkley Popp, Starr and Wyatt Lang, Derek, Stuart and Addison Penman. She will be missed very much by her 103 year old sister, Alma Veal of Langenburg, Saskatchewan. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Martha was predeceased by her parents, George (1939) and Kathrina (1961), her husband Frank Popp (1991), her Granddaughter Shawna Marie Lang (1974), as well as 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Martha was an expert seamstress and enjoyed knitting as well as crocheting. She loved to bake and her grandchildren were especially fond of her cinnamon scuffles. A Divine Funeral Service, lead by Pastor Hennig and Pastor Van Katwyk will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Boulevard, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 am. The Service will be followed by a lunch and celebration of Martha’s life in the Fellowship Hall of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Alta Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Boulevard, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 0G2.
