Obituary for Shirley Mae Bettenson (Jellison)

Shirley Mae Bettenson of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at her home, after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the age of 87 years. Shirley was born on July 10 , 1927 to Don and Ruth Jellison, the second of five daughters. She grew up on a farm in the Coronation District and later moved with her family to Red Deer, where she completed High School. In 1947, Shirley married the love of her life, Carl and together they raised their family and built a successful business. Mom lived a full life. Over the years, she had been active in her church and the U.C.W., and was a Lioness in Association with the Lions Club. She enjoyed golfing and visiting and having fun with her many wonderful friends. She and Carl traveled the world and spent many warm winters in Arizona. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her husband of sixty-seven years, Carl Bettenson; her children, Lee Conklin, Doug (Jane) Bettenson and Carol Bettenson; her grandchildren, Jeff (Danielle) Conklin, Parker (Pam) Bettenson and Joe (Heather) Bettenson; and her great grandchildren, Jessica and Payton Conklin, Emily, Kessler, Ryan and Daxon Bettenson and Jack Bettenson. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Don and Ruth Jellison; sisters, Sandra Jellison and Irene Barker; and a son-in-law, Ken Conklin. A Funeral Service will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. A Private Family Interment will be held at Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta.
