Obituary

Mrs. Mira Emelia Quesnel of Red Deer, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Mira was born in Poljane Yugoslavia (Croatia) on September 8, 1929. The family emigrated to Canada in 1936 and settled on a farm near Ellscott, Alberta. Raised on the family farm, worked on the farm but was keenly interested in education and attended school in Ellscott and Boyle, Alberta. She moved to Edmonton where she achieved her Teaching Certificate and returned to teach in Ellscott for a period of time. She married Ken Quesnel, who was in the Royal Canadian Airforce, and they moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for a posting to RCAF Station Saskatoon. Mira and family moved several times after that including RCAF Station/CFB Penhold three times; Clinton, Ontario; Moisie, Quebec; and Puntzi Mountain, B.C. Following the final posting to CFB Penhold the family settled in Red Deer in 1970. Mira taught at Andersons of Craigmyle School at CFB Penhold for 25 years before retiring in 1992. She loved teaching and the ability to help the children she taught learn. She enjoyed sports including softball while growing up and then later curling and golf, being the only one in the family to get a Hole in One (so far). Mira enjoyed gardening and could make anything grow. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grand children and great grandchild. I met Mira in the rehab ward of the hospital. My mother was recuperating from a stroke and Mira was always a a joy to talk to and visit with in the dining room and the halls. My deepest sympathy for your loss.

Mira was our next door neighbor for over 30 years. She watched our children grow up and would be a kind listening ear and offer her words of wisdom. We will all miss our chats and will miss Mira greatly.

My deepest sympathies to you Micheal, Carol, Tim Pat and your families. Be strong together as together you will find the strength to move forward at this difficult time. Aunt Mira played a big part in all our lives when family got together at the farm for the summer haying season, as she was the oldest and always had wisdom for us out of control boys!, or just in town for a friendly visit. I see her and mom sitting at the kitchen table enjoying coffee and each others company as only sisters would understand.

I am sure they are together enjoying that cup of coffee .

Gods garden has yet another bloom.

To Mike, Carol, Tim and Pat and family: I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Mira's passing. I have very fond memories of Aunt Mira, particularly from our childhood excursions down to Penhold and Red Deer, especially at Easter and to the few Quesnel-side family reunions I was able to attend. I loved her hearty laugh and she was always so kind to us Gagnon kids. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
