Obituary for Joseph Ernest "Joe" Labas

1928 – 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Joseph Ernest Labas of Red Deer, Alberta, Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Joe was born on November 18, 1928 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. His early childhood years were enjoyed on the homestead just outside of Lestock, Saskatchewan. While in his teens, the family decided to leave the farm and moved to town, where Joe continued his education. After graduation Joe moved to Hamilton, Ontario to pursue his mechanics ticket. Once he had achieved his ticket, he moved back home and married his long time girlfriend Margaret. Together they had two daughters, and Joe started his career with Hudson Bay Oil and Gas in Cessford, Alberta. As he worked with the company, Joe moved from Cessford to Red Deer, Alberta and then finally to Edson, Alberta, as the Maintenance Foreman at the gas plant. Upon retirement, Joe and Margaret decided to move back to Red Deer and enjoy life. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his daughters; Gayle (Jim) Fischer of Edson, Alberta; and Wanda Labas of Red Deer, Alberta three grandchildren; David (Brenda) Fischer, Amanda Fischer, and Jeffry (Mauhier) Fischer, and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his four brothers; Roy Labas of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, George (Dean) Labas of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Edward (Gwen) Labas of Nanaimo, British Columbia, and John Labas of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, two sisters; Anne Hemmerling, and Margy Hamel both of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
