It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Tyler Frank Bates, with his family by his side, at his home in Eckville, Alberta, on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the age of 41 years. Tyler was born on July 5, 1979 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, to Bill and Terry Bates. He was the third of four children. Tyler’s childhood years were spent with his family in Rocky Mountain House, and at the age of twelve, the family moved to Eckville; where he graduated in 1998, and spent his remaining years. After High School, Tyler worked as an Electrician, Wire Line Operator and various Laborer Construction jobs. In 2012, Tyler went to work for his Dad’s Company, Bill Bates Trucking, as a Tank Truck Driver. In 2018, Tyler and his wife, Tanya purchased the trucking company; which he and Tanya operated until his passing. From an early age, Tyler enjoyed his years playing hockey through Midget with Rocky Minor Hockey and the Eckville Eagles. He continued playing hockey in an Eckville “Beer League,” until a back condition caused him to quit the game a few years ago. Tyler also showed a love for motorbikes. He and his friend would spend many days riding their dirt bikes and camping in tents, in a neighboring friend’s pasture. In 2002, Tyler met the love of his life, Tanya Couturier. On August 21, 2004, Tyler and Tanya were married at the Eckville Community Church. They had two children, Hayden and Sienna, and one adopted son, Jesse. While on days off, Tyler loved to sing and dance around the house, with his kids. One could not get the music loud enough for Tyler, and he had a particularly loud contagious laugh. Tyler wore his heart on his sleeve, could never be hurt by rock, but could easily be hurt by words. He was also known as a dedicated worker. Tyler always had the best stereo system in his car, and his house, which could be heard from a distance with the loudest bass. He loved sharing his passion of R.C. Cars with his children; and had a huge collection of hockey cards. He was avid about buying collector hockey cards and would never part with any. Along with his hockey cards, he also had a large collection of Zippo Lighters, most of which are in their original box. He particularly loved his mother, Terry and his stepfather, Dave’s family campground; which included trails that Dave made. He allowed Tyler to share his love of quadding with his children, and also Dry Haven Campground; where he and his family spent countless days camping. In 2020, Tyler purchased a red 1981 GMC Sierra Classic 1500 Pickup; which he looked forward to restoring, but unfortunately was unable to complete his goal. Tyler will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Tanya; his sons, Hayden and Jesse and his daughter, Sienna. He will also be sadly missed by his mother, Terry (Dave) Anderson; his father, Bill (Cathleen) Bates; his brothers, Jayson Bates, Jeremy (Nova) Bates and Amber (B.J) Bott; his stepsister, Amanda (Greg) Hawboldt; his grandmothers, Lucy Mason and Harriet Bates; his father-in-law, Ivan (Teresa) Couturier; his sister-in-law, Natalie (Doug) Halwas and his brother-in-law, Kyle (TJ) Gillett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tyler was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Deb Couturier and his grandfathers, Frank Bates and Andy Mason. A Private Family Gathering will be held at a later date.
