Obituary for Robert Dennis "Bob" Pettie

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert ‘Bob’ Pettie. Bob left this world peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, May 15, 2023 at the age of 77 years. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished grandfather, a big brother, and a beloved friend. Bob was born on December 22, 1945 in Calgary, Alberta and spent his formative years growing up in Edmonton. He quickly developed an affinity for sports, and a passion for football led him to be signed by the Edmonton Wildcats in the Canadian Junior Football League. At the tender age of sixteen, while attending Archbishop O’Leary High School, the brawny football player fell in love with a beautiful cheerleader. Edith became his one true love, and in 1967, the High School sweethearts exchanged vows. Bob’s devotion to Edith was unyielding, and their love story was an inspiration to all who witnessed it. Bob’s professional pursuits began as a young livestock buyer for Canada Packers. The company led him to Red Deer, where he continued his employment for the next twenty-five years. Bob ended his tenure as the Western Canadian Procurement Manager. With years of expertise behind him, Bob created his own livestock listing company and eventually concluded his professional journey with Sunterra Meats in Innisfail, at the age of sixty-one. Bob’s dedication, integrity, and hard work earned him the respect of his colleagues and left an indelible mark on the industry he served. Above all of Bob’s accomplishments, his greatest joy and true purpose in life was his dedication to family. He prioritized his role as a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather. Bob’s wisdom, humility, laughter, kindness, and love will not be forgotten. The memories he created with his family will be forever cherished. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Edith Pettie, his children, Michelle Stewart (Bryan) and Tom Pettie (Johanna), his granddaughters, Sydney S. and Mariah P., and his sisters, Leslie Pettie (Ed Lorenz) and Chris Pettie (Mike Hinton). Bob was predeceased by his mother and father, Edna and Thomas Pettie, who undoubtedly welcomed him into eternity with open arms. A Public Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if desired, Memorial Donations in Bob’s honor may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca.
