Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Richard Bien of Red Deer, Alberta, on Friday, November 13, 2020 at the age of 68 years. Richard was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on January 25, 1952. He was raised in Gravelbourg, and later moved to Regina; where he graduated from Thom Collegiate High School. Richard began his career with the Co-op in 1973, working his way up to Grocery Manager. During his career, he was transferred to various locations including Montmartre, Strasbourg, Shaunavon, Regina, Assiniboia, Innisfail, and he finally retired in Red Deer. Never one to be idle, he continued to work as a handy-man for the next ten years. He loved to spend time with family and friends, playing cards and board games. He also enjoyed camping, fishing with the boys and participated in a bowling league, for many years. A dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he will be profoundly and deeply missed. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-seven years, Debbie Bien of Red Deer; his two children, Andrea (John) Alexander of Airdrie and Christopher Bien of Red Deer; his four grandchildren, Alecia Alexander of Calgary and Nicholas, Reece and Nathalie Alexander, of Airdrie. He will also be sadly missed by his two sisters, Pattie Engle (Grant) of Winnipeg and Debbie Ecklund (Doug) of Regina. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Doris and his two sisters, Barbara Bien and Susan Hubbard. A Private Service of Remembrance will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, Red Deer, Alberta. Uncle Richard loved to laugh. He was funny and he was kind. He had a sweet tooth and would always bring home the best treats from the CO-OP (poppy seed rolls, especially). He will be dearly missed. Thinking of you Auntie Debbie, Andrea, John and the kids, and Christopher. Love to you all.
