Obituary for Randall Anthony Junck

Dr. Randall Anthony ‘Randy’ Junck passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the age of 72 years. Randy graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine in 1972 and practiced Emergency Medicine for forty-seven years at the Rockyview and Holy Cross Hospitals in Calgary, Alberta, and then at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, before retiring in 2019. He was instrumental in establishing a full-time Emergency Department in Red Deer, with colleagues that became lifelong friends. He also served as Chief of Staff for many years for the Red Deer Emergency Physicians. Randy was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting and boating; especially at Calling Lake, Alberta, where he had so many family connections. This is where he met Marnie, who he would eventually marry. They purchased their own cabin in 1974, and together, for nearly fifty-three years they built a life at the Lake, Calgary and moved to Red Deer in 1981. He loved sports and enjoyed golfing with Marnie and family, including his numerous golf trips to Cuba and Vegas with the boys. Randy could always be seen supporting his kids in their sports growing up – he was an avid hockey fan, and also enjoyed coaching his sons in baseball and cheering his daughter in fastball and sports. He continued to travel all over Alberta and Canada to watch his grandkids play baseball, fastball, ringette, dance, hockey and volleyball competitions. He was a caring man that touched the lives of so many in his career and life, and his family and friends will miss him deeply. Randy will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of nearly fifty-three years, Marlene ‘Marnie’; his two sons, Cameron (Nancy) Junck and Tyler (Katy) Junck; his daughter, Erin (Corey) Hunter, his seven grandchildren, Adam, Nicole and Lauren Junck, Morgan and Eric Hunter and Austin and Scarlett Junck. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Murray (Kris), Shane (Leanne) and his sisters, Gloria Ciciarelli (Fred), Sharilyn Panchyshyn (Lorne) and his sister-in-law, Diane Junck. Randy was predeceased by his father, Esmond, his mother, Ethel and a brother, Greg. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Miroslaw Kostarzewski, Celebrant.
