It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Oma Datt Sharma of Red Deer, Alberta as a result of heart failure on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the age of 81 years. Oma Datt Sharma was born on May 5, 1938 in Delhi, India, to Gurdas Ram and Puran Devi. Oma Datt Sharma completed his education in Delhi and worked as an electric meter reader in Delhi, until 1974. Oma Datt married Pushpa in 1961. Their son, Chander and two daughters, Madhu and Lalita, were born before they immigrated to Canada in 1974, to settle down in Red Deer, Alberta. Oma Datt Sharma right away started working as a production worker at Travelaire Trailers in 1974, until his retirement in 2003. In 1975, their third daughter, Nisha was born. Oma Datt was very devoted to his family; especially his grandchildren and was ready to do anything for them. Oma Datt Sharma will be forever loved and remembered by his wife, Pushpa Sharma; son, Chander (Francina) Sharma and their daughters, Madhu (Atul) Badoni; Lalita Nault and Nisha (Rick) Minhas; his grandchildren, Rayna, Eshana, Nikhil, Aksana, Avinash, Saahil, Jiya and Simran. He is also survived by his sister, Krishna Sharma of New Zealand; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Oma Datt was predeceased by his older brother, Brahm Datt and his younger brother, Jagdish Datt. Relatives and Friends are welcome to participate in the Celebration of Oma Datt’s Life at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 - 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, Dec 14, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Oma Datt’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at Condolences may be sent or viewed at Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040 or 1.800.481.7421.
