Obituary for Norma Elizabeth Allen (Lavier)

ALLEN, Norma
1923 – 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Norma Elizabeth Allen (nee Lavier) at Points West Living, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the age of 97 years. Norma was born near Baildon, Saskatchewan on July 28, 1923. As a young girl, Norma attended school in the Baildon area. In 1941, Norma married a local farmer, Sydney Allen. During their sixty-one years of marriage, Norma and Sydney raised four children. Norma excelled at cooking, baking, sewing and gardening; and especially found joy in making something out of nothing, leading to her love of many crafts. After moving to Red Deer, Norma cooked at the West Park Nursing Home for twenty-two years. Norma was known for adding that extra touch to perfect the meals that she prepared to the highest quality. At Norma and Sydney`s acreage, they enjoyed gardening, and tending to the horses, and an array of other animals they kept there over the years. In 1989, Norma and Sydney retired to Red Deer. Norma`s passion was family and family gatherings, with her noted cooking being at center stage. Norma was known for her independence and extraordinary determination. Her final two years at Points West Living were comfortable even through the Covid-19 restricted visiting. The staff was amazing as they and the other residents became like a second family to Norma. Norma will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Linda Duchak of Red Deer, Alberta and Terry Allen of Red Deer County, Alberta, her seven grandchildren, Debbie Thompson (Dwayne), Tina Shields (David), Jody Rossi (Brad Chimera), Jess Chinnery, Arlo Chinnery (Kanpimon), Adam Berger (Pamela Anderson) and Jennifer Williams (Martin Stahl), her twelve great grandchildren, Sarah Thompson (Todd), Ronnie Thompson (Jamie), Ashley Carter (Rob), Brett Rossi (Hannah), Dyson Shields (Sarah), Cyrus Berger, Eva Berger, Sophie Wendrich-Chinnery, Jace Chinnery, Lilly Stahl, Timothy Stahl and Jacoby Stahl and her two great, great granddaughters, Parker Thompson and Lily Thompson, She will also be sadly missed by her sister, Doreen Perkins of Calgary, Alberta, her numerous nieces and nephews, and her numerous great (and great-great) nieces and nephews. Norma was predeceased by her husband of sixty-one years, Sydney Allen, her two sons, Ronnie Allen and Delbert Allen, a grandson, Dylan Shields, her parents, a sister, Irene Jasper, and her three brothers, Alfred, Walter, and Aubrey Lavier. In lieu of flowers, if desired, Memorial Donations in Norma’s honor may be made directly to a Charity of the Donor’s choice. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
