Obituary for Muriel Anne Thomson (Derraugh)

THOMSON, Muriel
1955 – 2021
Mrs. Muriel Anne Thomson of Sylvan Lake, Alberta passed away, surrounded by her loving family, at the Red Deer Hospice on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the age of 65 years. Muriel was born on December 10, 1955 at Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Growing up, she spent time in various Alberta locations, before the family settled in Lougheed, Alberta. Muriel’s passion in her formative years was sports; and she was an avid baseball player and curler. As an adult, she had a long career in the Financial Services Industry. Her clients, over the years, commented on how she always gave one hundred percent to serving them. Muriel was always passionate about family and spent a lot of her time catching up with what was a large number of people. Her love was reciprocated and her loss is felt by so many. Muriel will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Phil Thomson of Sylvan Lake; her son, Darryl Beatty of Sooke, British Columbia; her daughter, Melissa Niven, also of Sylvan Lake and her two grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Patricia Van Hecke of Alliance, Alberta and Marilyn Patten and Sherry Rudd, both of Lougheed, Alberta; as well as numerous other family members and dear friends. Muriel was predeceased by her father, Hugh Derraugh, her mother, Thelma Derraugh, a brother, Wayne Wagner and a sister, Corrine Yung. A Celebration of Muriel’s Life will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Muriel’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
