Obituary for Michael 'Mike' Edmund Buker

BUKER, Michael ‘Mike’
October 15, 1947 – January 17, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Michael ‘Mike’ Buker shares the news of his passing at his home in Red Deer Monday, January 17, 2022 at the age of 74 years. Battling many health issues over the last several years with his loving wife by his side, there was never a complaint, just a strong will to battle whatever was dealt to him. Mike served the Water and Wastewater Supply Industry for over forty years with mainly Norwood Foundry and Emco and retained a strong reputation of fairness and respect. Many wonderful friends and long term relationships were extended to him in those working years and lasted with him to his final days. Mike also retained many lifelong friends, but especially enjoyed his many conversations over the last few days, weeks, months and years with his boyhood buddy, John Harland, with whom he shared a special bond. Mike and Carol travelled and camped extensively over the years in Australia, South Africa, Asia, Europe, Antarctica, South America, every state in the USA and proud to say, in every Province and Territory of his own, Canada. Mike retained his love of camping and fishing with Carol and his dogs into retirement, spending many weekends in the foothills and Rocky Mountains west of Red Deer. However, nothing was dearer to Mike than his love of the Edmonton Eskimos, with his friend, Charlie bringing the Grey Cup to him at his last stay at the Peter Lougheed Centre. The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to all of the caregivers at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, and the Peter Lougheed Centre, with special thanks to Dr. Kym Jim and his staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit, and the many Homecare nurses who cared for him. Mike will be dearly missed by his loving wife of forty-five years, Carol (nee Mihalynuk). Mike will also be lovingly remembered by his three brothers, Jim, David (Karen) and Gary, his three sisters-in-law Kim, Kandy (Emerson) and Wendy, and his brother-in-law, Scott (Wendy); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie Jean (1985) and Olin Ernest (1988), and brother-in-law, Robert ‘Bob’ (2020). At Mike's request, there will be no funeral service. If desired Memorial Donations in Mike’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit at www.rdrhfoundation.com, the Central Alberta Humane Society at www.cahumane.com, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Forever missed, rest in painless peace. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
