Obituary for Michael Robert Klass

KLASS, Michael
1971 – 2023
Mr. Michael Robert Klass passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the age of 51 years. Michael was born in Edmonton, Alberta on December 5, 1971. As a young boy, he moved to Strasbourg, Saskatchewan where he was raised, and his passion for all things sports began. Michael attended SIAST – Kelsey Campus in Saskatoon where he completed his Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies, in 1992. He remained in Saskatoon for several years, where he met and married his wife, Cheryl. Michael and Cheryl moved to Hay River, Northwest Territories for two years before settling in Red Deer, in 2002. Michael was a super proud dad to his two sons, Kai and Parker, as well as his fur baby, Archie. Michael’s lifelong passion for sports permeated everything in his life, from his work to his volunteer and community involvement. From being a player, teammate, and coach, to mentor, volunteer, and community leader, he embraced every opportunity to instill the love for sports and would look for ways to advance his vision, as well as promote participation for everyone. Michael’s passion for sports was only exceeded by his love for his family. He was always present for his boys, whether it be watching a game on TV together, playing catch in the yard, teaching them to skate, or coaching or watching them play the sports they love. He genuinely cared for all his family and was truly interested in their lives. He would never miss an opportunity to tease a niece/nephew, throw out a dad joke, or learn more of what was on their minds, or important to them. Michael will by lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl Klass, his sons, Kai Klass and Parker Klass, his mother, Heather Schaeffer, his sister, Melanie Loroff, his brother-in-law, Corey Loroff, his nieces, Jaden Loroff and Erika Loroff, and his brother, Scott Klass (Gabrielle) his nieces, Myelle and Cambrie, as well as numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, in-laws, and friends.
