Obituary

Mr. Mervyn Ray ‘Merv’ Grasdal passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, after a battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the age of 64 years. Merv was born on July 22, 1955 at Tisdale, Saskatchewan, the youngest of the family. Merv called many Saskatchewan towns home, such as Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Regina, and Kindersley. He was a hardworking man and spent much of his career in Transportation and Oilfield Safety. Merv met Darlene Henne in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and they wed on June 18, 1983. They resided there for a few years and then in Saskatoon for fifteen years, before moving to Red Deer nineteen years ago. Merv will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene; they were blessed with a son, Jesse and two daughters, Raelene and Emily. Their family grew with daughter-in-law, Amanda and granddaughters, Aspen and Ember. He will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Ron (Anne), Keith (Colette), Gail (Red); and their families. Merv was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Connie; and a sister, Joyce. A Celebration of Merv’s Life will be held at Kentwood Alliance Church, 4 Kennedy Drive, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, in place of flowers, Memorial Donations in Merv’s honor may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society at www.alzheimer.ca; or to the Canadian Lung Association at www.lung.ca. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.

A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts, through us, they live on. My condolences.

“Say not in grief ‘he is no more’ but in thankfulness that he was.” My heart aches for your loss and the road you must now travel. You have you faith, family and friends, to accompany you on this new path that life has put forth.
