Obituary for Mel Thomas Brownlee

1962 - 2022
Mr. Mel Thomas Brownlee of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at Calgary Alberta on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the age of 59 years. Mel was born in Innisfail, Alberta on September 17, 1962 and was raised in Innisfail. He built houses in Courtney and Comox, British Columbia, and in later years, he lived and worked in Penhold and Ponoka, Alberta, as well. He was a truck driver for most of his life. Mel had many certificates including, Journeyman Carpenter and Scaffolder. He enjoyed working with wood, from carvings to building fences and decks, to building houses. On July 30, 1996, he welcomed his only child, Ardin, to the world, and several years later on September 16, 2005, he married his best friend, Barbara. Mel would give a helping hand to those who needed it, whenever he could. He was widely known in his community for his sense of humor and by his unique and unusual hairstyle. Mel will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Mel will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara Brownlee (nee Comis), his three sons, Lonnie Amundson, of Blackfalds, Robert Amundson and Ardin Brownlee, both of Red Deer; his daughter, Kathleen Carter; his seven grandchildren and his two great grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Patrick Brownlee; his two sisters, Cora Brownlee and Debbie Brownlee, and many friends. Mel was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Nelsie Brownlee. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. A Celebration of Mel’s Life will be announced at a later date.
