Obituary for Mary Louise Corrigan (Neate)

CORRIGAN, Mary
1929 – 2023
Mrs. Mary Louise Corrigan passed away at the Timberstone Mews on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the age of 93 years. She was born in Kingston, Ontario on June 27, 1929, to John and Eunice Neate. Mary moved around for the first part of her childhood, until the family finally settled in Nobleton, Ontario. While growing up in Nobleton, Mary worked at a variety of jobs, including picking fruit and vegetables, as well as working at her father’s greenhouse, the Gilby’s Gin Factory and the Campbells Soup Factory. She would later attend the University of Guelph for a four-year program in Household Sciences. This is where she would meet her future husband, Charles Douglas Corrigan. The two were married and would eventually move to Red Deer, Alberta in the 1950’s. Mary spent her time raising four children, and when they were old enough, she worked at a Fabric Store in the Parkland Mall. After becoming an “empty nester,” Mary took an Art History course and then took the Early Childhood Education program at Red Deer College, and later worked at the College Daycare. Mary also volunteered at the Cronquist House, where she oversaw the making of scones and serving tea. After retiring, Mary dedicated her time to volunteer at an array of different organizations, which included the Christmas Bureau, where Mary sewed clothes for dolls and assembled the packages for them. She also spent lots of time exercising and trying new things. Skating, biking and Keep Fit classes were her favorite; she tried rollerblading as well, but it did not go as she expected. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Patricia (Dr. Randy) Templeman, her daughters, Gwen (Robert Bussières) Corrigan, daughter-in-law, Nancy Corrigan, Nancy (Terry McBride) Wilson, Peggy (Michael Lario) Corrigan, her grandchildren, Alex Bussières, Jeremy (Erin Burton) and Chris Corrigan, Samantha and Kaitlin Lario, and with great joy, her great grandson, Kieran James Burton Corrigan, her brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Heather Corrigan, her sister-in-law, Irene Corrigan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Charles Douglas Corrigan, her son, James ‘Jim’ Corrigan, her grandson, Eric Wilson and a brother, Roy (Jeanette) Neate. A Public Graveside Service will be held at Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer County, Alberta on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Tea at the Cronquist Tea House, 4, 4707 Fountain Drive, Red Deer, Alberta.
