Obituary for Margaret Joan "Joan" McGonigal (Sim)

MCGONIGAL, Joan
1953 – 2020
Mrs. Margaret ‘Joan’ McGonigal passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the age of 66 years. Joan McGonigal (nee Sim) was the oldest triplet born February 18, 1953 in Lacombe, Alberta. She was raised on the family farm with her siblings, Colleen, Harvey and Jean. On April 10, 1971, Joan married the love of her life, Roger McGonigal. After moving to Edmonton for four months, they moved to Alix, Alberta for a year, then they moved to Red Deer, Alberta and have lived in the same house ever since. Joan worked as a Key Punch Operator at Central Computers, then as a cashier in the Cafeteria at the Hospital. She then took a bookkeeping course at the Academy of Learning and was a bookkeeper at Eagle Automotive. She soon took a data entry position at LIS at the Burnt Lake Auction but her favorite job was raising her beautiful family. Trevor McGonigal, Darren (Tracy) McGonigal and Angie (Trevor) Dziaduck were her greatest pride. Over the years, Roger and Joan loved to go out for social events. In fact, you would find them playing softball or bowling, and most recently, Joan started to really enjoy golf with her friends. If asked Joan’s favorite pastime, it was watching her grandchildren and great grandson growing up; whether it was going to a music recital, or a sporting event, or babysitting at home, she was excited to participate. She will be ever cherished by her many friends and family. Her spirited laugh will forever be in our hearts. Joan is survived by her loving husband, Roger, her children, her best friend and sister, Jean, her grandchildren and her great grandson. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Elva Sim, a daughter, Charlene and her siblings Colleen Durant, Harvey Sim and June Sim. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Joan’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com.
