Obituary for Margaret Jean Kolton (Sveinson)

It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Margaret Kolton announces her passing on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 76 years of age. Margaret was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and after marrying the love of her life, Roy, she moved out west to Edmonton, Alberta in 1965, with Rob and Rhonda in tow. Corinne soon joined the family in Alberta, the following year. The family grew up in Alberta with homes in Edmonton, Leduc, Red Deer and then ultimately retiring at Buck Lake, Alberta. Margaret was an avid crafter from Artex, Needlework, knitting, crochet, and cross stitch, to painting the woodwork designs they sold at the farmer’s market. She loved to try new crafts and took lessons every chance she had. She lived for her family and friends. A great day for her was everyone getting together for a big meal, at the Lake, Homestead, Gimli, or Sandy Hook. Playing board games, or around the campfire – the more the merrier. Mom and dad loved to travel and cruise, their favourite places were anywhere in Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. Margaret loved to go watch all her grandchildren and great grandchildren in the various activities and sports of their choosing. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of sixty years, Roy Kolton who was her partner, friend, companion, and travel buddy for so many years. She also leaves behind her son, Rob (Cathy) Kolton, her daughters, Rhonda (Wayne) Parker and Corinne (Greg) Hemstad, and her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, who provided her with so many memories and fun times. Her grandchildren, Dan (Amber) Kolton, Julie (Austin) Soutar, Nicole (Roy Anderson) Parker, David Parker, Jordan (Shannon) Hemstad, Jeremy Tirrell and her great grandchildren, Keegan and Emersyn Kolton, Maddox and Olivia Hemstad, Shane, Kolton and Myles Tirrell, Laela and Solomon Anderson, Sawyer Soutar, and her brother, Bill Sveinson. She will also be sadly missed by numerous family members and dear friends. Margaret was predeceased by her mother, Maria Arason, her father, Albert Sveinson, her brothers, Stan and Harold Sveinson and her granddaughter, Melissa Tirrell. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Bouch for his long-term care of Margaret, and Timberstone Mews for their care for the past few years. As per Margaret’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service; although, a get together will be planned when the weather is warmer, to gather and share memories. In lieu of flowers, if desired, Memorial Donations in Margaret’s honor may be made to the Red Deer and Central Alberta Alzheimer Society or to The Lending Cupboard, Red Deer, who provided excellent support to Roy and the family during the past few years of Margaret’s life. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
