Obituary for Margaret Macdonald

Rita Margaret ‘Marge’ MacDonald (nee Newman) was born at Vermilion, Alberta on October 21, 1923, the youngest of four children born to Albert John and Mabel Frances Newman (nee Way). Marge passed away on at Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the age of 98 years.
Marge grew up and lived on farms in Central Alberta before taking to city life at 25 years of age.
Farming, she gained a special appreciation of horses, as workmates and playmates: as well as love for animals in general. Living and working in urban centers, she learned the importance of sharing life with good friends – which included family members; and the joy of participating in sports; softball, curling, golf, skiing, fishing etc.
Marge truly believed the closing lines of a particular poem that said “All the world’s riches and tributes of men, can’t hold a candle to the worth of a friend.” She considered having shared her life with many good and true friends, her greatest achievement.
Marge was predeceased by her parents and three brothers: Clifford (Cipper); Irving (Buster); and Roy (Chub); niece Helen and Lester Babb; nephew-in-law Warren Marfleet and her longtime partner Cliff Stannard.
She is survived by her son Stuart Roy MacDonald (Stu) and his partner Nikko Sinclaire, Pat and Dale Stannard and family; nephews and nieces: Betty and Lyle Newman, Sylvia and Roger Newman, Arlene Marfleet, Karen and Randy Cross; Lela Lancaster, and their families; as well as many cousins and special friends.
A Celebration of Marge’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium on February 10, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
We would like to thank the management and especially the staff at Extendicare Michener Hill for their caring for Marge.
