Obituary for Margaret Ellen Leppard

“We are who we are today because we knew you".

Margaret (Marg) Leppard. February 25, 1954 - October 21, 2020

Lively, fun-loving, tender-hearted, filled with moxie and determination until the end, Marg passed away on October 21 with her beloved son Rob by her side.

Born in Ottawa in 1954, Marg moved in 1960 with her parents and her twin brother Hartley to a ranch near Beiseker, Alberta. It was there that her lifelong love of horses and adventure began. In 1966 the family bought the Starlite Motel in Lethbridge where Marg attended school and the University of Lethbridge.

In 1973 Marg married and gave birth to the light of her life, her only child, Rob. Marg moved to Edmonton where she worked for IBM and Arthur Anderson while raising Rob as a single mom after the breakup of her marriage. As Rob grew up Marg was able to devote many hours of volunteer work to the community. She was a devoted and loving mother who put her son before everything else.

With Rob raised, Marg set off on an adventure of her own, teaching English in Poland. She loved the time spent in Poland and as always with Marg, made lots of new friends.
Shortly after returning to Canada, Marg suffered a stroke which was to herald the beginning of a long and harrowing struggle with vascular dementia. Her last days were spent at the Villa Marie in Red Deer cared for by friendly and attentive staff. Rob was close by and his daily visits always brought a smile to her eyes.

Marg was preceded in death by her father Harold Leppard. She is survived by her son Rob Nonni, of Red Deer; her mother Edith Stewart, of Lethbridge; and her brother Hartley Leppard, of Fernie, British Columbia and by many dear friends and extended family in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer society of Canada.

A celebration of Marg's life will be held at a later date.
