Obituary

“We are who we are today because we knew you".

Margaret (Marg) Leppard. February 25, 1954 - October 21, 2020

Lively, fun-loving, tender-hearted, filled with moxie and determination until the end, Marg passed away on October 21 with her beloved son Rob by her side.

Born in Ottawa in 1954, Marg moved in 1960 with her parents and her twin brother Hartley to a ranch near Beiseker, Alberta. It was there that her lifelong love of horses and adventure began. In 1966 the family bought the Starlite Motel in Lethbridge where Marg attended school and the University of Lethbridge.

In 1973 Marg married and gave birth to the light of her life, her only child, Rob. Marg moved to Edmonton where she worked for IBM and Arthur Anderson while raising Rob as a single mom after the breakup of her marriage. As Rob grew up Marg was able to devote many hours of volunteer work to the community. She was a devoted and loving mother who put her son before everything else.

With Rob raised, Marg set off on an adventure of her own, teaching English in Poland. She loved the time spent in Poland and as always with Marg, made lots of new friends.
Shortly after returning to Canada, Marg suffered a stroke which was to herald the beginning of a long and harrowing struggle with vascular dementia. Her last days were spent at the Villa Marie in Red Deer cared for by friendly and attentive staff. Rob was close by and his daily visits always brought a smile to her eyes.

Marg was preceded in death by her father Harold Leppard. She is survived by her son Rob Nonni, of Red Deer; her mother Edith Stewart, of Lethbridge; and her brother Hartley Leppard, of Fernie, British Columbia and by many dear friends and extended family in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer society of Canada.

A celebration of Marg's life will be held at a later date.

Au Revoir, my dear, dear friend. I think of you every day and you are sorely missed. I think of all the wonderful experiences we shared over a period of forty years. I remember the good times when you were enjoying life before you had your stroke in June, 2013.
I particularly remember the many visits to Jasper Park Lodge for “ Christmas in November “or the trips to Lethbridge to see Edith or Fernie to meet up with Hart and Radium where we soaked in the Hot Springs and had lots of fun. You were funny, kind, you made friends everywhere you went. You also had a great sense of adventure— heading off tp Poland to teach English and not speaking a word of Polish! You had a knack for languages however and you learned and did well and all your students loved you! One of your Polish friends- Alicia, came to visit and I have vivid memories of both dancing to country music on the deck at my cottage- with Marg wearing her cowboy hat!
My deepest condolences to Rob, Hart, Edith and family circle. Marg was a very special person and we were all privileged to know her. She will never be forgotten for I believe she touched all of our lives.

Hi Carol. The trips to Lethbridge and Fernie will be fondly remembered. She did have a knack for languages and as you mention, not knowing a language didn't pose a problem for long. Thanks for your kind, fond memories.

My sincerest sympathies go out to Rob, Hartley, Edith and families. I started work at the WCB in 1985 where I had the pleasure of meeting Marg. We became good friends. Marg created "Ladies Night Out" (aka LNO), where a group of ladies from work would go out to enjoy some of Edmonton's finest restaurants. I will always remember Marg's infectious laugh, and her amazing impersonations of a variety of celebrities, including her famous "witch cackle". Years later, we would always go out to celebrate birthdays - enjoying a good meal and a glass or two of wine, whether at a restaurant or at Marg's home. Marg was an exceptionally good host and cook. She was also quite artistic. I still have a few of the handmade items she had given me as gifts, including some dried floral arrangements and some Christmas candles. I will miss Marg's spunk, laughter and friendship. Rest in peace, my good friend.

Hi Leslie. Thanks so much for sharing these memories of Marg. I had forgotten about the "witch cackle" and mentioning it has brightened my day. She made friends so easily whether at work, at play or her volunteer work. Hart

Our heartfelt condolences to Edith Hart and family and Rob and family

We were so very sorry to hear of Marg's passing. She will always be remembered as a very bubbly and fun lovely lady with a love of life and with a personality that always made you feel special. We were lucky enough to get to spend time with her over the years when we went to Lethbridge to visit Edith. We even got to go on a vacation with her and other family members to Cabo Mexico and had so much fun. She will forever remain in our hearts.

Love Val and Thom & Family

Around Margie - there was always certain to be laughter. She lit up a room with her personality and was so much fun to be around. Our family gatherings and visits haven’t been the same since she became ill, and we will always think of her joyous spirit and smile at the memory of her! Love and hugs to Rob, Hart & Grandma Edith.

Love Robyn
