Mr. Kyle Francis Mitten passed away at Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the age of 62 years. Kyle was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan, the second of seven children, born to Archie and Mary (Tuomainen) Mitten. Kyle attended school in Yarbo, Saskatchewan; until leaving home to work the railroad at seventeen. Brandee-Lee, Kyle’s only child, was born on February 4, 1981. Kyle left the railroad at nineteen and went into construction; which had him away from home for extended periods of time. At twenty-eight, Kyle graduated at the top of his class and became an Interprovincial Red Seal Welder. Kyle did a lot of travelling and working in camp jobs until the early to mid ‘90’s, when he made a decision to nail down some roots for the first time in many years. He chose to do this in the beautiful Town of Sparwood, British Columbia. On Mother’s Day of 1996, Kyle changed his life. This would turn out to be the first day of the rest of his life. This was his first day of sobriety, and this choice allowed him to become the man I write about today. Kyle was a man of many interests; he loved astronomy, geology, meteorology, and most anything science. He was an artist at heart. He saw the beauty in woodworking, metal work and rock polishing. He was a complex man with a simple, kind and generous heart. Kyle loved to share his interests with anyone that wanted to learn. His desire to learn and teach was from his mother, Mary. Kyle did nothing in his life in half measures. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing pool. When we were blessed enough to purchase our little slice of heaven on earth, he became quite a gardener. We planted fruit trees and a garden that was large enough to feed a family of six. Kyle learned to can and bake. He was truly into anything that he could learn. Kyle loved animals and babies most in the world; and unlike most people, they love without judgment. Kyle took care of his friends with a fierce loyalty. Later in life, he had a complete shift, changing his career to Financial Services, and he became an even more amazing man than he already was. I, as his wife, always saw this ability in him. We entered into a business partnership together with the best company in North America. This changed him in ways no one would have foreseen. Kyle, in his last two years of life, got to dress up and go to work every day, proud of what he accomplished and how we could change lives one table at a time. He always said to me, “My Dad wore a suit and tie every day to work and now, so do I.” Kyle won many awards and accolades, in a short period of time. Kyle will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Fiona Lilly Mitten; his daughter, Brandee-Lee (Greg) of Atwater, Saskatchewan; and his grandson, Adrian. He will be sadly missed by his brother, James (Lori) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; his sisters, Diane (Richard) of Melville, Saskatchewan, Marla of Yarbo, Saskatchewan, Wendy of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and Barbra (Dave) of Regina, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by Jocelyn, Mary and Archie. A Celebration of Kyle’s Life will be held at CrossRoads Church, 38105 Range Road 275, Red Deer County, Alberta (SW Corner of Hwy 2 and 32 Street) on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Horton Officiating.
