Obituary for Kenneth George Duncan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Kenneth ‘Ken’ George Duncan of Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the age of 79 years. Ken was born in Nordegg, Alberta on December 3, 1940. He was raised in the small mining town by Serena (D’Amico) and Robert Duncan, also of Nordegg. At the age of sixteen, when the town was basically shut down due to the mine closure, Ken and all his family packed up and moved to Calgary to begin their new lives. Ken joined the RCMP in 1962 and retired in 1989. He then went on to another career with Court and Prisoner Services (now Alberta Sheriff’s) for eighteen years until he fully retired at the age of sixty-seven. He enjoyed a long career in Senior Men’s Hockey from the time he was eighteen until the age of forty. Ken won the Western Canadian Championships twice in the ‘60’s with the Quesnel Kangaroos. He was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Ken enjoyed time in the RCMP in various cities and townships; Cloverdale, Chetwynd, Quesnel, Richmond RCMP/Airport Special Squad and RCMP Undercover Drug Section. He went on to Fort St. John for two years, and then to Sylvan Lake for two more. Ken worked the Red Deer Drug Section for the RCMP from 1982 to 1986, then to his final RCMP posting in Edson until his retirement from the RCMP in 1989. Ken’s Provincial Court’s posting was in Red Deer and Calgary from 1990 to 2008. He moved to Red Deer in the summer of 2017 to be with his two sons full time. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his two sons and their spouses, George Duncan and Nikki Lexel, Jamie Duncan and Rhianne Weghnnar, his sister Phyllis Duncan (and her children Kevin and Wendy), his brother and his spouse Bob and Debbie Duncan (and their children Kasey and Ryan), Ken’s grandchildren, Lilith Duncan and Sydney Morris, as well as many many others. A Celebration of life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, Red Deer, Alberta Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:00am. A comital celebration will be held in Nordegg, at a future date and we will send out the details when we have them. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
