Obituary for John Dugan

DUGAN, John
1960 – 2022
Mr. John Montgomery Dugan of Blackfalds, Alberta, passed away at home, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the age of 62 years. John was born and raised in Red Deer, graduating from Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. He then went on to the University of Alberta for Degrees in Genetics and Agriculture. He spent the first part of his career as a Livestock Nutritionist in the Feed Industry, and the remainder as the Practice Manager in his father’s Veterinary Clinic, while also managing the family farm. As a young adult, John excelled at European handball, making it to the Provincial Team and to the Canadian Olympic team tryouts. John loved most sports, competition of any kind, and enjoyed watching his sons play hockey, baseball, and soccer. John enjoyed camping with the family and sit-down dinners with a decided preference for roast beef. John was a voracious reader; easily consuming a novel per day when he had the chance. John had a broad knowledge of, and paid close attention to current events, especially when it involved sports. John loved to argue, rarely had the lower hand, and when he did, he’d always explore options for a draw. John suffered from Type 2 Diabetes, and over the past few years had been in declining health, but still able to get out and about, including a recent trip to Lacombe to attend the horse races. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen, his sons, JJ and Nick, his mother, Anna, his sister, Sharon (Paul) Leighton, his brothers, Pat (Peggy) and Mike. He will also be sadly missed by his many loved nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his father, Dr. John Dugan. A Funeral Service for John will be held at St. Leonard’s On The Hill Anglican Church, 4241 - 44 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The Service will be livestreamed via zoom using a password, which may be obtained from stleonardsanglicanchurch@gmail.com.
