Obituary for Irene Edna Peters (Mashford)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mrs. Irene Edna Peters (nee Mashford) of Red Deer, Alberta at the Red Deer Hospice with family by her side on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the age of 78 years. Irene was born the fifth of six children to parents, Robert and Edna Mashford on June 10, 1943. Irene married her husband, Bill on October 29, 1960 and they had three children. Bill and Irene lived in Three Hills, Killam and Red Deer where she worked as a farmwife, at the Post Office, bookkeeping and retail. Family and friends were her greatest joy. Irene will be remembered for her bright, dimpled smile, kindness, positivity, and zest for life. She was always well groomed and dressed, leading her family to call her a “Glamazon”. Irene was involved in many activities including golf, curling, aquasize, camping, and the Royal Purple. As a dedicated Royal Purple member for over fifty years, Irene helped cater many events, did volunteer work, and served four times as Honored Royal Lady. Irene and Bill relished spending time in their park model at Glennifer Lake for the last twenty-four years. They also enjoyed travelling in retirement. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her husband of sixty-one years, Bill Peters, her daughters, Cindy Peters (Dave Allison) and Shelly (Bruce) Kelndorfer, her son, Bill (Denise) Peters Jr., her grandchildren, Carly (Devon) Cowles, Lindsay (Brandon) Chodak, Aleze Peters, and Ayden Peters, and her great grandchildren, Avery and Reese Cowles, Austin and Bailey Chodak. She will also be sadly missed by her sister, Doreen Hiller, and her brother, Bob Mashford. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Edna Mashford, a sister, Clara McGee, and her brothers, Don Mashford, and Ken Mashford. A Private Celebration of Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Irene’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice at www.reddeerhospice.com or to the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca.
