Obituary for Irene Berry (Geran)

BERRY, Irene
1936 - 2020
Irene Berry of Red Deer, Alberta passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the age of 83 years. She was born and raised near Regina, Saskatchewan. After graduation, she headed for Regina to work as a telephone operator, and in professional offices in Toronto. There, she met and married Edward Ketemer, and welcomed daughter Jacinda. Soon after moving to Lloydminster, the arrival of daughter Nicole completed their family.
As she raised her family, Irene worked concurrently for London Life and Statistics Canada, as well as enjoyed many clubs and activities; such as T.O.P.S., golfing, dancing, bingo, the bowling league, card-playing, camping and sightseeing...all this while running two daughters between Girl Guides, figure skating lessons, and softball...which she coached!

After her daughters graduated, Irene retired and moved to Calgary in 1993 where she soon met and married Chester Berry. Dancing at the Legion, bingo, and shopping for bargains kept them very busy. After Chester’s passing in 2003, Irene moved to Red Deer to be closer to her grandchildren, Haley, Alex and Steven, who she spoiled at every opportunity. She also retired from retirement, revelling in chatting with and dealing blackjack to Jackpot Casino patrons until 2016. At the age of 80, Irene moved into an active retirement villa, enjoying many activities, family and friends. Irene took much pride in her family--and never shied away from showing her encouragement, support, and love. After a brief illness, Irene passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Nicole (Chris) Adam of Edmonton, her daughter Jacinda Kitt of Red Deer; her grandchildren, Haley Kitt of Edmonton, Alex Kitt of Vancouver, and Steven of Red Deer; her sister, Shirley Sinclaire of Vancouver; and nieces Sherry (Glen) Sinclaire of Hamilton and Jodi (Gareth) Rowlands. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester, her mother, Annie, her step-father John, her brother James, her brother-in-laws Garrett and John, and her son-in-law David.

A private interment took place on July 8, 2020 at Horn Hill Cemetery in Red Deer County. In remembrance of Irene, it is the family’s wish that you shower your loved ones with a few hours of together time...Mom’s most-favourite thing.
