Obituary for Hughena Lorene Glover

GLOVER, Hughena
July 27, 1937 – April 22, 2022
Mrs. Hughena Lorene Glover passed away after a brief illness at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, with family by her side, on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the age of 84 years. Hughena was born in Irma, Alberta on the family homestead. She was the eldest child of four born to Walter and Meta Glover. She had three younger brothers, Doug, Garth, and Shane. Hughena had a special place in her grandparent’s heart and her middle name ‘Lorene’ was after their daughter, that passed away at an early age. Hughena was a bright and curious child with special interests in music, and the sport of fastball. She moved to Burquitlam, British Columbia, a subdivision of Coquitlam, British Columbia, in the early 1950’s, to stay with her grandparents and go to school. The rest of her family moved to the area of Coquitlam/Mallardville in the following years. She was an accomplished musician; completing her Royal Conservatory exams for piano and received honors at Secretarial College. Hughena loved to celebrate family milestones and married at nineteen, with over five hundred guests at the wedding. She divorced her first husband following the birth of their son. She then moved to Calgary, Alberta, with her partner, Janos Lengyel in the early 1960’s, where they established a family. During their seventeen years together, they had six children and moved to Sylvan Lake, Alberta, with the dream to revive a motel called the Bluebird Auto Court. Following their separation in the late 1970’s, Hughena returned to college at Red Deer to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree. However, this was interrupted by her responsibilities in raising a busy family. She was always offering to help people that needed a supportive word and often opened the family home to others that had greater needs. She moved around Alberta as her children grew up and left home, before returning to British Columbia to assist her aging parents. Following their deaths, she returned to Central Alberta to be closer to her children. Hughena will be lovingly remembered by her children, Shaun (Linda), Dion (Debbie), Carman, Brennan, Aaron (Sylvia), Shannan (Doug), and Tamran. She will also be fondly missed by her seventeen grandchildren and her four great grandchildren. Hughena was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Meta, and a brother, Douglas. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 - 67A Street, (Taylor Drive) Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Hughena’s honor may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada at www.alzheimer.ca or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta and NWT at www.heartandstroke.ca.
