Obituary for Grant Campbell McDevitt

MCDEVITT, Grant
June 23, 1953 – June 10, 2022
Mr. Grant Campbell ‘Cam’ McDevitt passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, June 10, 2022 at the age of 68 years. Grant was born in Edmonton, Alberta on June 23, 1953 to Anne Irene Mitchell and Albert Clarence McDevitt. Grant lived in Edmonton, until moving to Michener Services in Red Deer. Although he had moved on to a new Community in Red Deer, one of his favorite retreats was to go back and visit, especially West Edmonton Mall, every year. On March 12, 1990, Grant became a member of Parkland CLASS in the Independent Lifestyles Program, which he appreciated, as Grant liked having his freedom to come and go as he pleased, and to choose his friends through his volunteer work. Grant was always a sociable person. He was very well known and liked in the community for all his contributions. He went to Red Deer Polytechnic, formerly known as Red Deer College, to obtain a variety of certificates in many areas of interest. Grant always did the best in whatever he chose to do, especially volunteering at Michener delivering papers, bingos, hockey games, Elections Alberta, Sutter, the Hub and Westerner Park. Grant was recognised by many community organizations and members. Grant’s favorite artist was Neil Diamond. He would sing along and play his guitar. He also enjoyed Country music. Along with volunteering, Grant’s favorite hobby was video games. He was a real professional and could spend hours on his games. Grant had a strong faith and expressed that he loved God and his church – Saint Leonard’s On The Hill Anglican Church. He was always a good member of the church and even spent some time being a member of the choir. Grant will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Beth Aulette. Grant will also be greatly missed by staff, friends and family for his laughter, his sense of humour, his independence, his eager participation in volunteering, and doing his best always, and always having the current events to share with others. He always took interest in what was happening. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Leonard’s On The Hill Anglican Church, 4241 - 44 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
