GIRARD, Gordon
1941 – 2022
Mr. Gordon ‘Gordie’ Girard passed away after a brief illness, in Chandler, Arizona, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the age of 80 years. Gordie was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta. He grew up in Hughenden, Alberta, where he graduated High School in 1959. Gordie started his career banking with Alberta Treasury Branch in Innisfail, Olds and Lacombe. When his father purchased the Pool Hall in Stettler, Alberta, he moved to help with the family business. There, Gordie met the love of his life, Janet and they were married for fifty-eight years. In 1962, Gordie went to work in Sales in the Food Industry, where he gained the CB handle ‘Cookie Monster’. In 1980, he moved into Sales in the Oil Patch, where he worked until his retirement in 2006. Gordie was a hard worker and loved his time working in Sales, as it led to many friendships. Gordie and Janet started spending winters in Chandler, Arizona, which became his ‘Happy Place’, soaking up sunshine and walking his dog, Pippa. He loved hunting, fishing, golf, and especially loved classic cars. His pride and joy was his 1968 GTO Convertible. Gordie will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janet, his daughters, Dianna (Bill) Riley and Lori (Guy) Tomashewski and his four grandchildren, Jenna, Melanie, Kate and Cohen. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Roger Girard, Robert (Peggy) Girard, Hermel Girard, and his sister, Noella Chapman and their families. Gordie was predeceased by a son, Richard, and his parents Hermel and Laura Girard. A Celebration of Gordie’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, Red Deer, Alberta on July 11, 2022 at 11:00A.M.. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
