Obituary for Gloria Louise Waunch

1948 – 2020
Mrs. Gloria Louise Waunch (nee Shanks), of Red Deer, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at the age of 72 years. Gloria was born on June 8, 1948 at Innisfail, Alberta, to Lloyd Shanks and Marjorie Lamarsh; along with her brothers and sister. Gloria attended the Clarendon School. The family moved around somewhat but eventually returned to the Innisfail Area. In 1969, Gloria married Richard Metcalfe and the couple had three children; Kathlene, Dawn and Sheldon. She was predeceased by Richard in 1976. In 1977, Gloria married Walt Bellair, and they farmed in the Acme Area. Then Gloria met Don Waunch and they resided in several communities throughout the Alberta. Gloria and Don married in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on December 16, 1989. Gloria had a huge heart and loved helping the less fortunate. She worked at Potters Hands and Safe Harbor, until her health would no longer allow her to. She loved going on picnics and will surely be watching over us all from her new picnic bench! Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her son, Sheldon Metcalfe, of Red Deer; her daughters, Kathlene (nee Metcalfe) (Clint) Bowers of Penhold and Dawn Metcalfe, also of Red Deer; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Gloria was predeceased by her first husband, Reuben Richard Metcalfe, her mother, Marjorie Lamarsh, her father, Lloyd Shanks, a sister, Beverly and two brothers, Jim and Bob Shanks. A Celebration of Gloria’s Life will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
