Gerald "Allen" Hicks formally of Edmonton passed away in his home at Red Deer on November 20, 2020. Allen was born to parents Percy and Minnie Hicks in Picton, Ontario on April 7, 1933. As a young man Allen joined the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in the Korean War. After returning home he met and married Patricia McPeak, and had 2 daughters, Debbie & Bonnie. Allen later co-founded 2 successful oilfield businesses. His interests were diverse throughout his life including watching then owning thoroughbred race horses. For many years Allen held seasons tickets to WHA then NHL Edmonton Oilers, also the Eskimos. He enjoyed watching many sports games from the armchair, including the Oilers, Eskimos and the Blue Jays.
Allen spent his last 18 years with Shirley, his early love. Allen will be lovingly remembered for his wit, pride, decency, generosity and the strength and courage he had in the last few months of his life. One of his daughters’ favourite memories will always be when he would laugh so hard he’d end up in tears.
