Obituary for Elizabeth 'Betty' Patricia Mcauley

MCAULEY, Elizabeth
1937 – 2021
It is with profound and unimaginable sadness that we announce the passing of our loving and devoted mother and friend, Elizabeth Patricia McAuley. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep, during the early morning hours, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, March 30, 2021 at the age of 84 years. Elizabeth was born on March 9, 1937 at Ottawa, Ontario, to wonderful parents, Edward C. Blais and Mary Patricia Blais. Being raised in a family of six, with four boys and an older sister, she understood the value of family. After completing her education, she entered the workforce, employed by the Federal Government. It was at this time, she met and married her future husband, RCMP Officer, Francis Allen McAuley. From there, she embarked upon a journey across Canada, following her husband’s career. Mom was from an era where family was more important than career. With the genesis initiated, her first son, Brent was born in Ottawa, followed by another son, Blair and their daughter, Kari-Lynne, born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Over time, her love and devotion to her family never wavered and her lifelong focus revolved around the happiness and success of her children. As a mother, she sacrificed much; so that her children’s lives could be more enriched. Mom ensured her children had a great start in life; especially the opportunity to attain academic success, not always afforded to many in her era. Mom had a special passion for animals and dearly loved her ‘fur babies’. All her dogs received as much love and attention as her children. Although initially afraid of dogs, she lovingly embraced them all and they reimbursed the affection in return. Barron, Coco, Potter, Bubba, Bailey, Benny and PeeWee are so happy to see her once again. Becky will have to wait her turn. Mom was always a beacon from which we could navigate our future course; keeping us on course in turbulent waters. Now that she has passed, we cherish the time we had with our mother and hope that we see her again; as we also will pass through the gates of heaven and once again be embraced into her loving arms, united again as a family. As we grieve, we take solace in the fact that your suffering on earth has ended. To our family and others, you were a Godsend, never to be replaced. We still cannot fathom being without you. Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Brent and Blair (Nancy), and her daughter, Kari-Lynne. She will also be sadly missed by her brothers, Patrick Blais, Edward (Elaine) Blais and Mark (Lee) Blais, her former husband, Francis McAuley, her sister-in-law, Donna Gibbons and her brother-in-law, Donald McAuley, both of Regina, Saskatchewan. Also left to mourn are her favorite nephew and nieces, Jeffrey (Maria) Kenny, Bobbi-lee (Dr. Peter) Burgess and Mary-Lou (Mike) Bowmaster all of greater Ottawa. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Edward C. and Mary Blais, a brother, Robert Blais and a sister, Theresa Kenny, all formerly of Ottawa, Ontario, a sister-in-law, Betty (Larry) Hamilton, formerly of Vancouver and Nanaimo, BC, a brother-in-law, David Gibbons and her parents-in-law, Foster Francis McAuley and Muriel E. McAuley.
