SCHMIDT, Edna (Reis)
1939-2022
Edna passed away peacefully in her home at Bethany Collegeside on Friday, August 26, 2022. Edna was born in Leader, Saskatchewan, on October 21, 1939, the youngest of 8 children of Gottlieb and Susanna Reis. At a young age the family moved to central Alberta, where Edna grew up on the family farm. On December 3, 1965 Edna married Peter Schmidt, and they raised two sons, Michael and Max in Red Deer. Edna moved to Calgary where she led an independent life and was a strong community volunteer. She volunteered with organizations including Women in Need, the Linkages program, and the Golden Circle, where she met her special friend, Jack Lee. Edna and Jack travelled together, including a highlight trip to Maui. Due to failing health, she moved into Bethany Calgary in 2018 and in 2020 she returned to Red Deer where she resided at Bethany Collegeside until her peaceful passing. Edna was a colorful person, who loved anything brightly colored. She loved her outings and visits along with her favorite stuffed bear, Molly. Edna is survived by her youngest son Max (Renita), sister-in-law Thordis Bailey and numerous nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her parents and son Michael and all her siblings. Edna’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at both Bethany Calgary and Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer for the care and compassion she received during her stays there. A public viewing will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287-67A Street, Red Deer, on Thursday, September 1, from 5: 00p.m-8:00p.m. Interment of her remains will take place at Rimbey Mount Auburn Cemetery, 4902 50 Ave, Rimbey, Alberta, at a later date.
