Obituary for Dwayne Alexander "Fergie" Ferguson

We are sad to announce that Dwayne Alexander ‘Fergie’ Ferguson of Eckville, Alberta passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the age of 66 years. Dwayne was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on January 18, 1957, to Pat and Les Ferguson. He spent his early years in Rockyford and Red Deer, spending most of his time interested in sports. Dwayne particularly loved hockey, as anyone who knew him knew that he was a loyal Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan. Dwayne would also take every opportunity to watch his grandkids play in whatever sport they were into at the time. Dwayne’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, and he could be counted on to never overstay his welcome. Dwayne spent most of his career in the Oilfield, initially as an employee for WPW, and then through Fergs Contracting. It was in the Oil Patch that he met many of his lifelong friends. Dwayne loved his work, and you could tell when he was on-site as he always had the cleanest truck in the yard. Dwayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soul mate, Laurie; his children, Valerie (Cameron) Hainsworth and Joshua (Alison) Ferguson; and his grandchildren, Seth (Bree), Alexis (Dan) and Aiden Hainsworth and Justin Ferguson. He will also be lovingly remembered by his stepsons, Sheldon (Kari) Brown and Codey (Jennifer) Kydd and his grandchildren, Dante and Caleb Brown and Jocelyn, Pearl, Madison and Casey Kydd. Dwayne will also be sadly and deeply missed by his mother, Pat Verreau; his brother, Grant (Shirley) Ferguson; his sister, Barbara (Lyle) Solland; his mother-in-law, Phyllis Brown; his sisters-in-law, Donna (Don) Chute and Roxanne (Steve) Knapp; as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Dwayne was predeceased by his father, Les Ferguson; his brother, Don Ferguson; his sister, Gwen Monti; his sister-in-law, Gail McLean; and his stepfather, Ken Verreau. A Celebration of Dwayne’s Life will be held at the Leslieville Community Hall, Leslieville, Alberta on Monday, May 8, 2023 from 1:00 p.m.to 4:00 pm.
