Obituary for David Goulven Doll

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Doll of Red Deer, Alberta, on August 27, 2020, at the age of 79. Dave was born on January 5, 1941 in St. Boniface, Manitoba to Alexis and Agnes Doll. Shortly after high school, Dave moved to Regina where he became an RCMP. He married the love of his life Jeannette during his two year post with the Musical Ride. Over the next ten years they made their family complete with their children: Patrick, Gerry, Collette and Michael.

In 1989, Dave retired from the RCMP and he and Jeannette built a house in Red Deer. Too young to be fully retired, Dave became employed with the government until Jeannette retired from teaching in 1997. It had been a dream of Dave’s to spend winters down in Arizona, so after much research, they settled on Mesa. In 1998 they packed up their motorhome and headed south for the first of what would become 22 winters escaping the cold Alberta weather. This year they had to cut their time in Mesa short as Dave’s health had deteriorated.

Family was very important to Dave and he cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He particularly loved playing a spirited game of cards with his grandchildren.

Dave was an ardent fan of many sports, both as a participant and a spectator, with hockey, golf, curling, and water volleyball topping the list. He also enjoyed many years of skiing in the mountains as well as camping.

Dave was always a very sociable person and a great friend to many. He cherished his daily coffee with his buddies as well as his weekly Nil card games.

Dave will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jeannette, and their four children: Patrick (Judy) and their children and grandchildren, Nicole, Josie, Jaron, Phoenyx and Xander; Gerry (Lisa) and their children Allison, Melanie and Matthew; Collette and children Michael, Alex and Melissa; Michael (Rebecca) and children Julia and Chloe, Jonathon and Vanessa. He is also survived by his brother John (Val) and his sister Agnes (Dave) as well as many nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by his sister Mary Ann in 2011, his great-nephew Alexander in 2016 and his nephew Neil in 2019.

If desired, Memorial Donations in Dave’s honor may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at www.heartandstroke.ca.
