Obituary for Danny Robert Bruce Brinton

Danny Robert Bruce Brinton of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, with his loving mother at his side, on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the age of 63 years. Danny was born in Red Deer, Alberta on November 2, 1959, living his whole life in Red Deer. He enjoyed sports of all kinds but as an adult, played Wheelchair Basket Ball after much coaxing from Joe Higgens. Danny played with the Red Deer Rebels, Alberta Northern Lights and the Canadian National WCBB Teams, travelling all over the world with “The Lights’ and The Canadian National Teams. He was on the team that won the NWBA Championships in 2005, and 2006, and was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, along with his Northern Lights teammates in 2008. Danny had his dream fulfilled by going to the Olympics in 1996, when he went to the Atlanta Paralympic Games with the Canadian Team. Danny also believed in being a volunteer. Danny enjoyed people, he was a loyal friend and very compassionate. Danny will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Sheila of Calgary, Alberta; his father, Bruce, his ‘other mom’ Gay, his brothers, Shadra (Renee) and family, Gabe (Amber) and family, all of Red Deer and Brent Logan of Toronto, Ontario; his sister, Carrie Metzger (Rudy) and family of Kelowna, British Columbia; his aunt, Maggie Armstrong, his uncle, Dennis Calvert and numerous cousins. Danny will also be sadly missed by his many friends in the WCBB Community, and at Red Deer Bingo where he worked. Danny was predeceased by his grandparents, Mary Brinton-Stannard, Alex and Irene Calvert; his uncle, Robert and Phyllis Calvert; his aunt, Donna Calvert; and his cousin, Deanna Grauman. A Celebration of Danny’s Life will be held at the Elks Hall, 6315 Horn Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Danny’s honor may be made directly to Spinal Cord Injury Canada at www.sci-can.ca or a Charity of the Donor’s choice.
