1959 – 2020
It is heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Chandra Prakash of Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, August 28, 2020. Chandra Prakash, son of Late Mr. & Mrs. Ram Karan was born in Nadi, Fiji Islands. He is survived by his wife lovely Kamini Prakash, daughters Kriti and, Sheetal, his two sons-in-law, Aman and Kaushik and his dog Lola. Chandra did his primary education in Momi, Nadi and completed his Accounting Degree at the University of the South Pacific. Upon graduation, he started his accounting career with Coopers & Lybrand in Lautoka. He spent 16 years with the company before moving to Canada in 1995 with family. He worked for Grant Thornton in Edmonton, Norman Thackery in Red Deer. His dedication to succeed pushed him into starting his own accounting firm, Chandra’s Financial Services in 2001. Chandra and Kamini opened A & W in the Parkland Mall in 2002. His struggles in early life set the path into seeing both his daughters leading to remarkably successful careers of their own Chandra was a dedicated man, proud of his family and community. Serving his community well, he was an appointed Commissioner of Oath, served a vice president of Registered Public Accountants of Alberta and member of the local Kiwanis Club of Red Deer. He was also instrumental in setting up a Hindu cultural & religious group in Red Deer. Chandra was well known for his purity in heart as his door was always open to one in need. He helped new immigrants settle and adjust into the community; offering them jobs, sponsoring visas, and making them part of his family. Chandra was an avid golfer. He was equally passionate about fishing, camping, traveling and soccer. Chandra was one of the most dependable, sincere and trustworthy person. He will be dearly missed by everyone.
