It is with deep sadness, and disbelief, that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Mr. Gordon ‘Bruce’ Elliott at his home, with his loved ones by his side, on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the age of 79 years. Bruce was born on September 20, 1941 at Calgary, Alberta. He was raised along the Bow River in Cochrane, Alberta; which proved to be his source of adventure and entertainment, as a youngster. Bruce was an incredibly hard working, self-made man. His work life, as a young man, included time in the Oil Industry; which took him as far as the Arctic Ocean. While raising his family in the Bow Valley, Bruce worked as a Blaster for Steel Brothers; he owned and operated a “Honey Wagon”; a back hoe, a trucking service and a tire shop “Canmore Tire”. Bruce finished his working career caring for and investing in the safety of various highways. He started working for Alberta Transportation in Strathmore, Alberta and transferred to Canmore; where he worked for Carmack and Volker Stevin. Bruce was a strong athletic man, known as “Big Iron” to many. He was an amazing hockey player and fast ball player. He loved to hunt, fish and had a love for the sport of Rodeo. His summers included mentoring and hauling steer riders across many provinces, and working for the Calgary Stampede, for over a decade. In his retirement, Bruce focused on time with his family, built knives, built bird houses, rode his motorcycle and hauled manure!! He said hauling manure was the best job he ever had. “He spread the sh-- and got paid for it!!” Bruce was passionate about life and made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed talking to people and telling a good joke. His family extended beyond the walls of his home. He shared a lifetime of memories and stories that will never grow old.

Bruce will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife of fifty-four years, Marietta; his son, Shane (Cindy); his daughter, Bobbie (friend, Jamie); his two beautifully hearted grandchildren, Joss and Bailey. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Jack (Amy); as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Norm and Bessie; his sisters, Norma, Marj and Dixie and a brother, Ken. A Memorial Service will be held outside at the Benalto Rodeo Grounds, Benalto, Alberta on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Please bring lawn chairs. A Luncheon will follow the service and camping is available for a small fee. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
