Obituary for Betty Louise Suchy (Jones)
Betty Louise Suchy passed away peacefully in her suite at Points West Living in Red Deer, Alberta on February 4th, 2020 at the age of 79 years. Betty was born on February 29, 1940 in The Pas, Manitoba to Mable and Gilbert Jones. She grew up there as the eldest of two children. She adored her brother, David. After high school graduation she furthered her education and worked in Winnipeg.
On June 11, 1960, Betty married Tom Suchy in The Pas, Manitoba. She joined Tom in Thompson, Manitoba where they resided for fourteen years. Betty and Tom’s son, Craig and two daughters, Carole and Brenda were all born in Thompson. Lifetime friendships were created there.
In 1974, Tom and Betty moved their family to Red Deer, Alberta. Shortly, thereafter Betty’s parents moved from The Pas to be near Betty and her family in Red Deer. Many of their closest friends moved to Red Deer, as well. These families spent many happy years together and are still in touch.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She also worked part-time with the provincial government for twenty-two years. In 1998, Betty and Tom both retired. They travelled across Canada and to the warmer climate in the southern United States during the winter. They also visited family in England and Australia, went on an adventure through Thailand, and explored parts of Europe on a river cruise. They both enjoyed travelling, camping, gardening, golfing and ice curling. Betty was devoted to her Bridge Club. She was also a talented watercolor artist and an active member of the Red Deer Art Club. In recent years, Betty especially enjoyed her great-grandchildren. She often said her most special memories were those spent with family and friends.
Betty is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by son, Craig (Deb); daughters, Carole (Cheryl), and Brenda (Doug); five grandchildren, Madison (Michael), Aaron (Tiffany), Luke (Jami), Alyson (Nathan), and Jenna (Ryan); and eight great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Jaclyn, Barrett, Teagan, Lauryn, Paisley, Peyton, and Gage; brother David (Janet) and their children Todd (Christine), Scott, Sue (Ron) and their families; and Rosie.
Betty is predeceased by her loving husband, Tom; her parents, Mable and Gilbert; her parents-in-law, Frank and Mary; her sister-in-law, Jennie; and her brother-in-law Ticky (Clifford).
Betty’s Celebration of Life will be on February 29th, 2020 at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club in Red Deer, Alberta at 2:00 p.m. This date is very special to those who love Betty as she was a leap year baby. She always giggled a little when she was reminded that she had only had 19 birthdays and was still technically a teenager.
A private interment will take place at Alto Reste Cemetery.

It was evident in the way they tenderly cared for Betty and in the tears, they shed after her passing. Thank you also to each of them for all the support given to Betty’s family. Caregivers Corrine and Cheryl played an invaluable role in helping family care for Betty over the past several years. Heartfelt thanks to Corrine and Cheryl. Sincerest gratitude is also extended to Dr. Philpott who has been an attentive and compassionate physician for Betty the past ten years, since Betty’s beloved Tom passed. As family members were saying good-bye to their precious Betty, Dr. Philpott reminded everyone that Betty’s legacy is her family.
