Obituary for Bernice Barbara Hopkins

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bernice Barbara Hopkins of Englee, Newfoundland, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the age of 52 years.

Bernice was born on December 14, 1967, and was raised in Englee, Newfoundland. She spent the first part of her life living in Englee, NL, then in Roddickton, NL, where she raised her son until he was in his teenage years. She had a huge giving heart and she loved her family, but she made the difficult decision to move for work in 1998 to Red Deer, Alberta to support her family. She resided in Red Deer until her passing. She truly enjoyed meeting new people, especially in her years when working as a custodian at the hotel and with the public. Her loud belly laugh will always be remembered by all those who loved her. She suffered from Epilepsy for most of her life, but always looked for the good in everything and she never complained. She found a great companion in her service dog, Highway, for the past 10 years.

Bernice will be lovingly remembered by her partner, Brad Bridges; son, Kent Hopkins; brother, Roger Hopkins; her fur baby, Highway; and by her large circle of nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and life-long friends.

Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Annie Hopkins; her brother, Roddick Hopkins; and her sister, Evelyn Bromley (Hopkins).

Bernice’s family would like to extend a thank you to family and friends of Red Deer, Alberta, and of Englee, Newfoundland, and surrounding areas for their continued support and compassion at this most difficult time. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for the care they took of Bernice in her final days. A celebration of Bernice’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. As I look upon your face...
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take…”
