Obituary for Arsenio 'Sonny' Suguitan Padilla

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Mr. Arsenio Sugitan ‘Sonny’ Padilla, surrounded by his loving family, due to complications from lung cancer surgery, at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, Alberta on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the age of 70 years. Arsenio was born in Tubao, La Union, Philippines on January 27, 1952, to Eduardo and Juliana Padilla. The oldest of 10 siblings, Arsenio became an Engineer in the Philippines, and he later immigrated to Canada, where he worked as a Government Food Inspector for the CFIA. He found his true passion teaching Filipino Martial Arts and self-defense at his studio in Red Deer. He also had a love of the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Sonny will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mauricia, his children, Mark (Jonex) and Michael (Vanna); his four grandchildren, Alexander, Layla, Bella, and Sylas; his siblings, Diego (Lourdes) Padilla, Cirilo (Delia) Padilla, Criselda (Conrado) Gundran, Virgilio (Virginia) Padilla, Arturo (Rowena) Padilla, Evelyn Padilla, Rudolfo (Teresita) Padilla, Marie Padilla, Florante (Marilou) Padilla, and Patricia Padilla; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, distant relatives, and friends. A Viewing will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. Prayers will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
