Obituary

BAUMGARTEN, Albert
1927 – 2019
Mr. Albert George Baumgarten died on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the age of 92 years. Albert was born on April 23, 1927 in Kayville, Saskatchewan, the youngest of eleven children born to Anton and Adelia Baumgarten. He attended Notre Dame School in Wilcox, Saskatchewan, then Normal School to become a teacher, and completed his education by attending summer school over several years at the University of Calgary, to obtain his Bachelor of Education. Albert met Margaret Molnar while he was teaching near Tisdale, Saskatchewan; and they were married in 1959. He taught in several communities, but the majority of his teaching career was spent at Paintearth School and Gus Wetter School in Castor, Alberta. After he retired from teaching, Albert and Margaret moved to Fox Creek, Alberta, where he worked part time as a guard at the jail (which resulted in many exciting stories to be shared over coffee), and pursued his passion for fishing. They moved to Red Deer in 2005, where he was an active member of the Golden Circle. He enjoyed playing sports, especially slow pitch, curling, and hockey, even coaching hockey in his younger years. He was positive and light-hearted, loved a good joke, and he was always up for a card game. Albert will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty years, Margaret (nee Molnar); his daughter, Janice (Bill) Neumeier; his son, Bradley Baumgarten (Anne Marie Watson); his grandchildren, Janalee (Dustin) West, Christopher Neumeier, Joseph Baumgarten and Jennifer Baumgarten; and one great grandchild, Ezrah West. Albert was predeceased by his parents and his siblings. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Albert’s honor may be made directly to a charity of the donor’s choice.
