Obituary for Doris Lynn Gillis (Morisseau)

Mrs. Doris Lynn Gillis, beloved wife of Robbie ‘Rob’ Charles Gillis of Red Deer, Alberta, loved by her family and friends, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the age of 56 years. Doris was born on April 19, 1963 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She grew up in Medicine Hat and eventually moved to Europe; where she visited and lived in multiple countries, and eventually conceived her son, Conrad, in England. After two and one half years, she and Conrad moved back to Alberta, and Doris worked at numerous golf courses. After meeting her soon to be husband, Rob Gillis, she lived in Red Deer for almost twenty-two years. For sixteen years, she had become a well-respected accountant for several firms. Doris loved to volunteer, she enjoyed being at the Festival of Trees, the MS Society of Canada, and countless other functions. She was always interacting with and brightening everyone’s day. Showing her colors as a true warrior, Doris bravely fought cancer twice, never giving in, or giving up. Our deepest thanks go to the doctors, nurses and staff that helped her fight until the end. The family expresses their special thanks for the compassion shown, by the nurses and doctors, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre ICU. Doris was a great woman who loved everyone as much as they loved her. Doris will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband, Rob; her son, Conrad James Flynn of Red Deer, Alberta and her cats; whom she loved dearly, Bella, Cookie and Bobby; and her siblings, Linda Seitz (Eric), Lorne (Helga) Morisseau, Brenda Morisseau (Bruce), Beverly Morisseau (Guy), Larry Morisseau (Marcie) and Doreen (Darryl 'Rud') Henderson. Doris was predeceased by her parents, Sandra and Andrew Morisseau and her mother and father in law, Edith and William Gillis. If desired, Memorial Donations in Doris’s honor may be made directly to a Charity of the Donor’s choice; her passion was animals, and the SPCA would be a great choice. A Celebration of Doris’s Life will be held at River Bend Golf Course, 3800 River Bend Drive, Red Deer County, Alberta on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.; with a Reception to follow at Heritage Lanes, 8, 6200 - 67A Street, Red Deer, Alberta. Respecting Doris’s wishes, a Private Family Gathering for scattering will take place. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040 or 1.800.481.7421.
