Mr. Wayne Robert Coubrough of Blackfalds, Alberta passed away, after a brief illness, at the Red Deer Hospice on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the age of 84 years. Wayne was born in Bengough, Saskatchewan on December 14, 1934. Wayne joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, Saskatchewan in December 1954, and was posted to Edmonton, Alberta; where he met and married his wife, Reta Nobbs on December 5, 1959. Wayne and Reta were posted overseas to 1 Support Unit, Metz, France. Their two children were born while they were posted in Europe. In 1967, Wayne was posted back to Canada to CFB Summerside and brought their little people home, to show the family in Canada. Wayne’s next posting was to CFB Moosonee, Ontario, November 1972. Wayne’s last family move was to CFB Penhold, Alberta, October 1974. While posted at CFB Penhold, Wayne served in UNDOF (Golan Heights) 1977/78; where he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1988, for Service on United Nations Peacekeeping Missions. Wayne retired from the Military and moved his family to Blackfalds, Alberta in August 1978. In December 1979, Wayne returned to CFB Penhold to work as a Civilian Supply Technician. He officially retired from working for the Military in 1990. During Wayne’s retirement years, he worked as a volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 212, Sylvan Lake, and Provincial Campground Hosting. Wayne worked at the Sylvan Lake Legion for many years and was very involved in all aspects, including Branch President, and was well respected by members of the Branch. Wayne was always ready and willing to help others. Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Reta and their children, Wade and Cindy. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Gloria (Bob) Wilde and his brother, Russell (Irene) Coubrough; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Violet Coubrough and a brother, Willard.
